Carrier Bag Charging

From 5th October 2015, a new law in England is passed, where retailers and businesses with over 250 full time equivalent employees must charge 5 pence for every single use plastic carrier bag issued to customers.

The scheme is detailed by English Government that it is aimed to reduce the use of single use carrier bags, and to encourage to re-use, or use 'bag for life' type bags.

Currently the law only requires companies with 250 or more full time equivalent employees to adhere. If you have a smaller business, then the charge does not affect you.

The new law also encompasses all plastic carrier bags up to 70mu (microns) in thickness. Anything over this thickness is exempt from the charge.
